Ogden Pioneer Days was first celebrated in the summer of 1934 after the charismatic Ogden City Mayor Harman W. Peery organized a western festival to boost the spirits of the locals and entice tourists to visit the city. Mayor Peery wanted Ogden Pioneer Days to become a national attraction that would continue for years to come, so together with the first committee members they outlined the events for the first celebration.
Some of the attractions were more outrageous than others, among the favorites was a beard growing competition; which was initiated by the local police wagering to see who would itch to shave first. Join us this year July 20-24 to continue the tradition of celebrating Utah’s statehood celebration. Ogden Pioneer Days events include concerts, parades, Farmers Markets, and, of course, the rodeo at historic Ogden Pioneer Stadium.
